Please Give for One Life to Live

This is your chance to save a life! The United Way of
Pike County and the Pike/Wayne Chapter of the American Red Cross are teaming up again for the 6th Annual Blood
Drive to be held on September 20th. The Blood Drive, part of the United Way Day of Caring, is to be held at the
Delaware Valley Middle School Gymnasium from 9 am to 3 pm. Thanks to the efforts of Superintendent Finan of the
Delaware Valley School District and Joe Casmus, Delaware Valley High School Principal, the Blood Drive will again
be held in spacious surroundings where chances are you will run into your friends who are also lining up to give.
Ray Wehner's Delaware Valley Vo-tech students are baking lots of cookies to help you replenish and the Pike Chamber
of Commerce is providing refreshments for Red Cross volunteers.
Last year the Blood Drive produced 87 units of blood; each unit saves 3 people! This year the goal is 100 units.
If you would like to help us reach this goal, all you have to be is 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and
be in good health. Do bring one form of identification with you!
The Day of Caring is a special day in Pike County - it's a day for giving back to community and, who knows, you
might just save a life. For further information about the Day of Caring and the Blood Drive, or United Way of Pike

 |
| Pictured: Dime Bank supports the Day of Caring with pledge
of tee shirts for all participants. Representing Dime Bank are Joe Adams, Vice President for Investment and Financial
Services, Deb Unflat, Marketing Officer, and Frank Redington, Vice President of Commercial Lending. |
Every year it is easy to spot the United Way Day of Caring
volunteers. They are the ones wearing the special tee shirts. This year, the United Way is thrilled that the Dime
Bank has pledged to purchase these shirts for the almost 500 volunteers who will be out and about September 20th.
United Way Board President Christine Obser said, "this generous gift of the Dime Bank keeps the spirit of
the day, all volunteer with no cost incurred, alive and well. United Way is grateful that all the volunteers will
receive this shirt as a token of appreciation for their time and effort! The Dime Bank continues to be so supportive
of the mission of the United Way!" "It is always a thrill to see all the volunteers with the Day of Caring
tee shirts out and about the community helping out," said Sue Robbins, Day of Caring Co-Chair and UWPC Board
Member. Frank Redington, Vice President of Commercial Lending for the Dime Bank and a United Way Board Member,
notes how pleased he is that "the Dime Bank shows such care for its community."
The 8th Annual Day of Caring and 6th annual Red Cross Blood Drive is on September 20th. It's not too late to offer
your help! Details about the day and the application form can be found on the United Way website, www.unitedwaypike.org,

Volunteers and Agencies Needed for United Way's 8th
Annual Day of Caring!
 |

in Pike County! |
Many people think of back to school when September arrives.
On September 20th, the United Way of Pike County thinks of Day of Caring and the 9/11 Memorial Blood Drive. Here
is the opportunity for the community and non-profit human service agencies to share the spirit of volunteerism
to clean up, clean out, and refresh for the coming months ahead. All around the County you will see people painting,
cleaning, filing, gardening, building and, even more importantly, carrying on the tradition of community giving
and sharing.
For a great jump start to the day, breakfast will be served beginning at 7:45 am at both the Wallenpaupack Area
High School and the Delaware Valley High School. The actual "work day" begins at 9 am and ends at 3 pm.
The United Way needs you! If you are a non-profit Pike County Human Service Agency in need of assistance, or if
you are interested in participating in the Day of Caring as a volunteer, please check our website, www.unitedwaypike.org,
for the application (here). Mail the application to:

Woodloch Does Something Amazing and You Can Too!

Pike County United Way's Annual Day of Caring is set for September 20, 2008. As in the past, the United Way likes
to start all its volunteers with a nice breakfast before they set out to give their time and energy to help the
non-profit agencies of Pike County. This year Woodloch Pines Resort, located outside Hawley, PA, has generously
donated toward the financing of this breakfast. "This is one more example of Woodloch's participation in the
United Way's ongoing efforts to serve the people of Pike County. We are grateful that they are helping the United
Way volunteers start the day with fellowship and food!" said Christine Obser, UWPC President. UWPC Board Member
and Day of Caring Chair, Mike Donlan, added, "We are certainly grateful that Bob Kiesendahl of Woodloch is
starting our event on such a positive note!"
This year both Wallenpaupack School District and Delaware Valley School District are participating in the Day of
Caring. Breakfast will be served at both locations and will begin at 7:45 am. Tee shirts will be handed out for
all participants at the breakfasts. The Day of Caring is an annual event in Pike County, a day when you can give
back to community and know that at the end of the day, you have made a big difference.
