The 7th Annual Day of Caring Success!

Arriving at the Delaware Valley High School for an early morning breakfast, 285 volunteers registered for projects to complete for the 7th Annual Day of Caring. For months, human service agencies around Pike County have been preparing for volunteers to come to their work sites and complete various tasks ranging from painting to clerical work. Volunteers were recruited from all over the Pike County community to come out on the Day of Caring and give back to their neighbors in need.

"The Day of Caring is a wonderful event for the entire community. People giving back to the people who give; it's such a great way to support agencies who are working every day to better the lives of those in need" stated Mike Donlon, Day of Caring Co-Chair.

Volunteers began arriving at the Delaware Valley High School at 7:30am. After registering and receiving their Day of Caring Volunteer tee-shirts, provided by Altec-Lansing, they enjoyed a wonderful breakfast prepared by Delaware Valley's own vo-tech students.

Each volunteer was assigned to a project site at one of these human service agencies: The Anne St. School, Bushkill Outreach Center, Pocono Educational Environmental Center, Country Ark Farm, Camp Speers-Eljabar, Safe Haven, Habitat for Humanity, Holy Trinity Food Pantry, The Sunshine Station, The United Way of Pike County, The Pike County Humane Society, Center for Developmental Disabilities, Pike County Developmental Center, Church of Good Shepard, The Pike County Area Agency on Aging, Pike County Library, G.A.I.T. (Genuine Alternative In Therapy), The 9/11 Memorial Blood Drive and Wayne-Pike Adult Literacy. Volunteers arrived at their project sites ready to put in a good days work. Through all of their hard work, the volunteers collectively completed 21 projects by 3pm.

"It was a beautiful day! I saw so many volunteers having a great time, and many agencies that were just so pleased they could participate. This was a truly successful event!" Stated Sue Robbins, Co-Chair of the Day of Caring.

The United Way of Pike County would like to thank Altec-Lansing for supporting this event in their donation of our Day of Caring tee-shirts, and for continually showing support to the United Way. We would like to thank all the volunteers for taking the time to give back to the community, and thank the agencies who participated. Make sure to mark your calendars for next years Day of Caring which will be on Saturday September 13, 2008. See you then!
