Local business owners Scott Myer and Greg Myer of Myer & Myer, CPA believe in giving local. They recently donated $1,000.00 to the United Way of Pike County specifically to go to the Ecumenical food pantry located in Milford. When asked, Scott Myer stated “Many of our residents are struggling to make ends meet and will have to reach out for help. Hunger is a growing problem and one that is not always visible. We wanted to do something to help the Ecumenical food pantry replenish their supplies. In the spirit of the season, we hope that other businesses that can give, will give to our local charities. We wish everyone a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season.”

“We are in the midst of a severe economic crisis that is straining family budgets throughout Pennsylvania and across the country. The United Way is very grateful to Scott Myer and Greg Myer of Myer & Myer, CPA Firm for their donation. With their help, the Ecumenical Food Pantry in Milford will serve well over 100 families this holiday season. On behalf of The United Way of Pike County, I would like to encourage everyone to buy local and give local. Here in Pike County we have nearly 60,000 residents. Imagine if each person gave just $5.00, which would be $300,000.00 to support our friends and neighbors in need. Please stay local, buy local and give local!” said Sue Robbins, Board Member, United Way of Pike County

9th Annual Community Coat Drive Underway!
Holding the United Way Sign and Winter Coats in a Wells Fargo Office
Pictured l to r: Mike Donlon, United Way Board Member and Valerie Seitz, Assistant Branch Manager of Wells Fargo Bank.

The ninth annual Coat Drive sponsored by the Wells Fargo Bank’s Valerie Seitz and the United Way of Pike County is now underway. After such a warm summer, it seems that temperatures are now plummeting. Many of our residents are finding themselves in desperate need of warm coats for the winter.  Valerie Seitz of Wells Fargo Bank is collecting winter coats, now through November 15th at the following Wells Fargo Bank locations: Milford, Dingmans Ferry, Lake Region, Matamoras, and Lords Valley. All of the coats collected will be taken to the Bushkill Outreach Center to be distributed to Pike County residents who need them.

“You have to walk outside in the winter just once to realize that there is nothing like a warm coat to protect you from the elements.  To some of our Pike County neighbors and friends, facing financial hardship, this is a luxury that they cannot afford.  I hope everyone who can, will go through their closets and contribute to this Coat Drive. We want everyone to be warm and toasty this winter. Do something amazing and donate a coat!” said Mike Donlon, UWPC Board Member.

“The Coat Drive is one of my favorite community outreach programs.  So many people have extra coats in their closets and this is a wonderful opportunity to give those coats to a worthy cause.  The Bushkill Outreach Center will see that these coats go to the many that are in need. I love knowing that this simple coat drive can make a big difference in someone’s quality of life,” stated Valerie Seitz, Assistant Branch Manager at Wells Fargo Bank in Lords Valley.

If you have any questions about the coat drive please contact Valerie Seitz at (570)296-5616. For more information about the United Way of Pike County or upcoming events visit

Volunteers Come Out for United Way Day of Caring!

In Pike County; 262 volunteers displayed a huge spirit of volunteerism on Saturday September 17th when they came out to participate in the 11th annual United Way Day of Caring. Volunteers were sent to local human service agencies where they raked leaves, marked trails, painted fences, cleaned stalls, landscaped, recycled, cleaned basements, painted walls and even built a shed, to name a few activities!  Day of Caring is a special day in Pike County.  Judging from the smiles on everyone’s face, it’s hard to tell who benefits the most – the agency or the volunteer. UW Day of Caring Co-Chair, Sue Robbins visited most every site and said, “Every year there is such enthusiasm on the part of all volunteers, they work so incredibly hard and at the end of the day are so excited by what they’ve accomplished and by the fun they had while giving back to the community.  Thank you everyone!”

There are a lot of people to thank for making this day such a success. Day of Caring Co-Chairmen Mike Donlon and Sue Robbins, and Catherine Capasso, United Way Executive Director, give special thanks to all of the extraordinary volunteers, to the Dime Bank and the Pike County Light and Power Company for providing the tee shirts and breakfast for the volunteers and to Woodloch Pines for adding delicious bagels to the hot breakfast.  Of course, the generosity and spirit of Delaware Valley High School, its students, and its Principal, Ron Collins, are immeasurable.  The school opens its doors for the entire day, provides space for breakfast and for the 9-11 Memorial Blood Drive held that day. DV also provides bussing and helps coordinate the bus rides to and from the agencies, and, best of all, supplies the majority of the students who volunteer.   Mike Donlon said, “The Day of Caring involves a lot of work on the part of everyone involved and yet, at the end of the day, you just feel incredibly energized by the spirit of the Day; it’s a wonderful experience to be a part of. I can’t say it enough – our volunteers are AMAZING!”

Regenski made a visit to the construction site of the newest home in the Sunrise Lake Community in Milford. “Wow, to see all of the volunteers out here working on this home for a family in need is incredible. It has got to be 95 degrees today with absolutely no breeze. Habitat for Humanity and their volunteers have a level of commitment to the community that is absolutely AMAZING! Our United Way contributors and volunteers, realize the need to rise to the challenge and make a difference in life where it is needed most. This is what we mean by Living United and we thank our community champions and partners for their support. ” Said Tom Regenski, UWPC President.

"HFH exists through the extraordinary efforts of its volunteers and generosity of those individuals and organizations who donate money and/or materials. “Nothing is as worthwhile as seeing a family take ownership of a home and begin a better life,” said Mike Donlon of Habitat for Humanity.  He adds that “The monies from the United Way are invaluable from the start of the building process to the final moment when the family moves in to their new home. I would like to thank the United Way for their commitment to the community.” said Mike Donlon of Habitat for Humanity.
