United Way of Pike County Donates to Pike County Food Pantry

Recently the Pike County Food Pantry which serves both Pike and Wayne Counties had reached out to the United Way of Pike County for some assistance in regards to their Food Pantry. The Pike County Food Pantry is working on the construction of a new facility. The new facility will be located at the Dreher Township Building in Wayne County. The food pantry will serve as a safe and sanitary food pantry and distribution center.  In addition it will serve low income folks from Green Township (Pike) as well as the very southern end of Wayne County.

Currently the Pike County Food Pantry is operating out of the Moravian Church in Newfoundland, which quarters are inadequate for both storage and distribution, as well as to assure safety for the public and volunteers. The Pike County Food Pantry recently applied for funding for the new space, they were granted$136,886 to their request of $152,628, which means they have fallen short of the amount that they needed to cover the project.

“President of UWPC Matt Osterberg, stated the mission of the United Way of Pike County is to assist in helping those in need of hunger and homelessness. When the Pike County Food Pantry reached out to me in regards to their situation, I felt it was important that the United Way of Pike County assist them in raising the funds”.
